This picture depicts a digitized version of a satellite photo of the Aurobrindavan-area downloaded from the Google-Earth Website.

More than 75% of the total landmass has deep ravines with considerable slopes, riverbed areas and a full outcropping of pebble stones.

A sizeable area of land close to the riverbed consists of almost impenetrable naturally re-grown indigenous forest vegetation, a great asset to the local ecology and the student of natural beauty. Many indigenous species of local wildlife can also be observed in the Aurobrindavan area.

The land is extremely poor and whatever vegetation has been established or allowed to grow, serves mainly as groundcover and somewhat stabilizes the first layer of the soil. In fact the lands were even much more degraded way back in 1969 when the first activities here started to take place. It was only with the foremost dedication,  perseverance and sacrifices of a continuous progression of Aurovilians living in Aurobrindavan that some positive changes have been brought about.

Lands have been reclamated and  Soil and Watercontrolmeasures have been put into place. These are being guarded, sustained and improved upon continuously.
