Palmyra Training Centre

Since the start of the Palmyra centre in 1990 we are giving special emphasis to apply gained experiences in our respective fields and make them available to villagers in our project area and beyond. An important aspect of 'Palmyra' is the emphasis on environmental education. Training programmes, exposure trips and many awareness sessions are held throughout the year in an informal way at the Palmyra Training Centre. The target groups include farmers and women's groups, NGO staff and Government officers.  The training programme for Indian Forest Service are one week courses on People’s Participation in Watershed Management and funded by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

In these programmes field visits take place in the morning. We are visiting project sites where work has been completed or is still going on. Impressions gained during these field visits are the foundations on which the sessions are built. We have learnt that here lies the key to successfully convey a important achievement. The trainees then evaluate what they have seen and later a general discussion follows on how to adapt or change the technologies according to the needs and the conditions of their own area.
